Surf trip for the hand planes

Our new hand planes got in the waves this weekend. Thanks to Sean and Ally for paddling into some dumpy sandy rides while we got pics from the beach. We all agreed that on a day like this they were more fun than our surfboards, great for getting little barrels and giving you a workout.

These are available through our website - just email me, or alternatively, I'll soon be putting some in the Cornwall Crafts Galleries at Trelissick and Trelowarren. They'll come with a cloth and some oil for keeping them looking pretty.

Photographs thanks to Liz Diss

Two new Otter Surfboards showing at Trelowarren Gallery in mid March

There will be two new boards on show at the Cornwall Crafts gallery on the Trelowarren Estate from the 14th of March. I am just about to begin work on a 6'10" Mini Magic and a 6'8" Single Diamond, in the CNC workshop tomorrow to get the frameworks cut out. Ill also have a selection of hand planes for sale there too! Whatch this space.

The Estate's main house, with the gallery just behind us.

Inside the gallery - It's got a bit more space than at Trelissick, so I am going to split the boards up at either ends of the space. Pics will follow on here when it's all together.

Whiz Twin (No1) Getting a dip on a sunny January day

A bit of down time from preparing for the shows recently, I managed to squeeze a surf in down at Perran sands, a little small and mushy, but its always fun. Still riding the first wooden board I made, still smiling about it!

Boards on Display with Cornwall Crafts

Here are a couple of images of the pair of boards that are on exhibition at the Cornwall Crafts gallery at Trelissick Gardens, near Truro. There is a 6'10" mini magic and a 5'8" whiz twin fish. I was there on the opening day with a couple of other prototype boards as well as one in-the-making. Thanks to everyone who came along for there was great interest and conversations.

The boards are there until the end of March, so feel free to go and check them out - the gardens and grounds are great places to have a walk and they do a pretty mean cream tea in the cafe too!

Cornwall Surfing Style - Saturday 29th Jan

I have been accepted into the Cornwall Crafts Association, which I am very excited about. Not only that, but they have decided to make some of my work the focus for their upcoming show at the Trelissick Garden Gallery. The openning of which they are making into a day about surfing.

I will be there with some work in progress, other environmental surf products that I sell alongside my boards and two finished boards as part of the gallery exhibition. If you fancy talking to me about my boards, I will be around all day so please come along.

Other guests will include the Museum of British Surfing and hopefully a visit from Robyn Davies - the National Trust's Surfing Community Representative. I hope to see you there.

Get Fresh opening night

The new boards are on show! It was an excitng evening, with lots of interest in the boards - they had a good impact with their strong colours and size. Luckily the opening speech was held next to them, so everyone had to look at them at some point. Thanks go to my sister, Vic, Simon and Liz for their support and thanks for the photos sis!

The show continues until Sun the 27th of February, so if you want to see the boards a little closer, why not go along. Open from 10am-5.30pm at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen Gallery in Bovey Tracey.

Sorry about the pose - we tried a few and oddly this was the best pic.

Show Fast Approaching

A couple of new boards will be on show as part of this exhibition in Bovey Tracey, Devon at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen Gallery. A new 6'7" Diamond tail single fin and a new 8'0" Mini mal. Please come along to see them, the opening night is this Friday, between 6 and 8pm, then it is open for 6 weeks at normal gallery opening times. I will be there this Friday, the 14th, then again a couple of times in February.

Images of the boards are soon to be posted too! I was pushed for time to get them done, so sadly I didn't manage to get any pics of the finished articles. Ill get some shots on the opening night though!
